FEATURES

All Software is not Created Equal
Software design should be the result of analyzing what the end result needs to be and how to achieve those results in the most efficient manner possible. Also the language and the development tools utilized to write a software package determines not only its speed in processing data, but its stability in the Windows environment, as well.
Evaluating features can be tricky, especially when there are so many things to consider. Beyond Support and Total Cost of Ownership, you must make sure that the software you are evaluating is:

Highly Efficient and Stable
Be sure that your windows package gives you the ability to keep your hands on the keyboard to operate the majority of the system. If you have to grab the mouse to move from field to field, you have greatly slowed down the data entry process, resulting in inefficiency.
Remember it is not a desirable situation to be tied to a software package that is operating system specific. Meaning that when an upgrade takes place in the operating system, you are forced to upgrade your software. And if the system you are evaluating is a “client server” based application, you will also have to upgrade your database management software! Expensive proposition.
Be sure that your new system is stable. One that requires constant Network Administrator attention is also going to be more expensive over the long run. Generally speaking, client server based applications, due to the increased overhead of a separate database engine, will require more attention to keep running smoothly.
If you only need three or four terminals or less, you can save thousands of dollars buying a system that doesn’t require a dedicated server.
Be sure that the Vendor you are considering can give you a lengthy list of references that have been using the system for years, not just new installs!

Growth and Flexibility

Be sure the system has the room to grow with your projected growth plans. Will it handle the number of providers, operators and locations that you plan to grow to?
Be sure the new system is highly flexible, meaning that most features can be turned on and off to tweak the system to your way of doing business.

System Security
You must be able to control degrees of user rights
You need to be able to audit what user has performed what functions in your system

Effectively Manage Your Receivables
You are in business to treat patients, and nothing is more important than collecting your receivables! In order to do this efficiently, it requires in-dept reporting. Be sure your new system has all of the reporting features to effectively manage all aspects of your practice! Your reporting features will make the difference in whether you have all of the necessary information available for you to make important business decisions or not!

Electronic Medical Records
If your specialty has the need for Electronic Medical Records for transcriptions and soap notes, the ideal situation is to have these activities occur within your Practice Management System, attached directly to the patient files and ledgers, as opposed to a separate application interface. More Efficient!

If your office writes prescriptions, the ideal situation is to have them attached to the patient files, in the billing system, for easy retrieval.

Would you like your new system to have the ability to track, print out or email patient phone messages, and have them attached to the patient file for easy review.

Look for Flexibility
Once these criteria have been established, You must check carefully to see that the application can handle all the nuances of your specialty. With many systems out there its their way or the highway, which means that you have to adapt your internal processes around the way the system works. The system you choose must be highly flexible and customizable. Because once the system is in place, you are forced to use it as it stands, which makes it easy to paint your practice into a corner.

Watch for hidden Costs!
Especially additional licensing fees associated with a database engine in Client Server Applications, and whether the system is operating system specific. Understand how your Vendor charges for updates to the system and what his support fees are. Also, how is the training handled and is it easy for new personal to learn the system?

Naturally, Quick-MD satisfies and expands upon all of these requirements. But this is really only the surface of what Quick-MD allows you to do.
